Pittsburgh International Airport
Airside Terminal Hold Rooms
Moon, PA
Rios Williams Architects (RWA), in partnership with Stantec, provided design services for the renovation of 28 airside hold rooms at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), supporting the Allegheny County Airport Authority’s Terminal Modernization Program (TMP). The project reimagined the passenger experience by reconfiguring boarding and seating layouts to meet airline requirements, upgrading finishes and LED lighting, modernizing gate podiums and Flight Information Displays, and introducing distinctive graphic artwork at each gate entry.
New wayfinding totems provide real-time, gate-specific flight information, while standardized design elements - including tandem seating, high-top tables, soft seating, integrated power units, and contemporary finishes - create a cohesive, modern environment aligned with the aesthetic and technological standards of PIT’s new landside additions. The renovations elevate comfort, functionality, and visual identity, delivering a unified and enhanced passenger experience throughout the terminal.
