University of Pittsburgh - Eberly Labs

Pittsburgh, PA

Located within a distinguished historic university building, this project involved the interior renovation and adaptive reuse of existing space to accommodate a cutting-edge analytical chemistry laboratory. Rios Williams Architects (RWA), in partnership with Stantec, designed and implemented a comprehensive transformation that artfully blends the building’s architectural heritage with modern research needs. The scope included the creation of a state-of-the-art Analytical low-level BSL-2 Laboratory, a chemistry lab, a maker space lab to support hands-on experimentation, and dedicated student office areas. Each space was carefully planned to foster collaboration, enhance safety, and optimize workflow for faculty, researchers, and students. The result is a vibrant, flexible environment that supports interdisciplinary research, innovation, and academic engagement, all while preserving the unique character of the historic structure.
